Honda's Ben Bostrom was victorious in Sunday's Laguna Seca AMA Superbike race, winning after a red flag stopped the exciting 28-lap event. Honda's Bostrom charged hard after the restart and eased out a slim margin on way to the victory over second place finisher Mat Mladin, who closed on Ben during the final lap but could not close enough to make a move.

For Bostrom, it was his first AMA Superbike win since 1999.

"Those guys were coming hard at the end. I was worried," said Bostrom. "We were lucky we had the red flag and I got a great start. Those last two laps were great. I could hardly remember what it was like to win a Superbike race. I'm just glad to be back."

Mladin looked to be pulling away in the first segment, only to find himself in fourth on the restart. Miguel DuHamel finished third, making a late-race gambit for the position with Aaron Yates, a position that held championship implications.

"We pushed hard," Mladin said, congratulating Bostrom on the win. "In the first one, before the red flag, my bike started to feel pretty good," Mladin said. "The fuel started wearing down and (the bike felt) good, but then the red flag came out."

Mladin said his teammate Aaron Yates held him up for three laps late in the race after Mladin was forced to take it easy in his clutch for the restart. "That's good team spirit right there," Mladin sarcastically said.

Mladin gained four points on DuHamel, wo gained the final podium spot in the closing laps over Yates, in the championship to increase his lead to ten with six rounds to go.

Eric Bostrom was fifth, also aided by the red flag as he ran off-course in the first segment. Attack Kawasaki's Josh Hayes was sixth, ahead of Jake Zemke in seventh. Zemke ran strong early and led the event but had black box issues that saw him struggle late.
