With the teams getting in place in Virginia for this weekend's Superbike double-header, it looks as though the Superbike silly season is beginning to wind down. Two veteran riders have signed deals for '06 with others slowly slotting into place.
Superbike legend Miguel DuHamel has agreed to a two-year contract "in principle" with American Honda says his manager, ex-racer Alan LaBrosse. LaBrosse said today that he expects the contract to be solidified in a week or so. DuHamel will remain in the Superbike class.
While rumors suggest that American Eric Bostrom is "imminently" signing with Ducati for another season, Ducati insiders say the (mutually agreed upon) plan is to wait until after the season ends (which is next week) and then assess the EB situation.
Georgian Aaron Yates has signed a letter of intent with Suzuki for next year. Yates will race Superbike and Superstock for the Yoshimura Suzuki team, says sources close to the situation. Yates is in a huge battle for the Superstock title at the moment and it seems as if cooler heads have prevailed, getting him signed so he can concentrate on riding instead of where he might be riding in '06.
Since Suzuki has signed Yates, that would seem to indicate that Roger Lee Hayden will stay at Kawasakibut will he race Superbike for Team Green? And what of brother Tom? Some say he now wants to make a Superbike return.
Certainly a rider we wouldn't make the mistake of underrating (this time) is Attack Kawasaki's Josh Hayes. Where will Hayes land for '06? Hayes says he is "close" to an '06 deal but declined to name the other party.
