Seven Things To Do At The USGP
plenty of fun at laguna seca

1. Watch from the Corkscrew. The signature turn of Laguna Seca is equivalent of a six-story drop. Television and photos can't capture all the drama of watching the Fast Guys zip through the 'Screw.

Fans are surprisingly close to the action at the top of the hill. And the view towards downtown Monterey is smashing as well.

2. Spend some time on Ducati Island. Ducati takes over an island in the Dry Lagoon, making the area outside of turns three and four the center of the Ducati universe -- at least for the weekend. There are autograph signings, cool vintage bikes, and some cool water. Even if you are not a Ducati owner, there's lots of interesting things happening at Ducati Island.

3. Feel the noise from the front straight grandstand. MotoGP bikes are loud, and the best spot to hear a MotoGP bike at Laguna Seca is the grandstand on the outside of the track that faces pit lane.

After exiting turn 11, the riders give it full stick on the run to the start-finish line.

4. Find a way into a special event. There are quite a few parties and invitation-only events in Monterey, including Yamaha's Weekend of Champion's party at the Aquarium. It's fun to challenge your networking skills and see if you can secure an invite to one of the weekend's events. Just don't be like the morons who tried photocopying some passes at the local Kinkos.

4. Get some Asian food from the Midway. The track food at Laguna Seca is some of the best anywhere with a huge variety.

5. Look for the Legends. The heroes from the past are often in attendance at the USGP, including nearby resident Wayne Rainey. Try counting the number of World Champions you can see in one weekend.

There are also some celebrities in attendance this weekend. Even Fabio.

6. Eyeball a GP bike. It's pretty safe to say that, if you come to Laguna, there's a good chance of getting a close-up view of a MotoGP bike. Sooner or later, a team will roll one out for display or one of the manufacturers will display one at their tent in the midway. Make sure your camera is ready.

7. Monterey Madness. It's motorcycle traffic only on Cannery Row, making it the place for night life. If a motorcycle was imported to the US, chances are one will be parked on Cannery Row on Saturday night.
