The MotoGP paddock will not be treated to an AMA dirt track at CoTA in 2017. The event is not on the 2017 AMA (American Flat Track) schedule.

Looking at it from the outside (of turns 3-4) the Austin dirt track race--held Saturday night on the grounds of CoTA last season--looked to be a successful event. The stands were packed, the race featured intense action and if you looked in the paddock you saw many MotoGP riders and crew, even the most travel weary and jaded among them looked dazzled. The race was a success.

But in the mid to late teens of this new century even a successful motorcycle race/event in America is no guarantee of it continuing.

The back story of the 2016 CoTA dirt track event is almost as entertaining as was the actual race.
The CoTa event is not on the 2017 AMA dirt track schedule and DMG/AMA Pro Racing sources suggest that it's not going to be.

The back story of the 2016 CoTA dirt track event is almost as entertaining as was the actual race. Basically, it was a co-promotion between Jim France of NASCAR, (or, "Friends of Jim" as they are known), CoTA and AMA Pro Racing. It's said that Jim or "FoJ" furnished a good bit of the money to build the track and stage the event at CoTA.

It was, apparently, a one race deal.

AMA dirt track--which is owned by DMG and Jim France-- is being re-branded as "American Flat Track" in 2017.
