MotoGP Press
Top on Day 1 and top on Day 2, that’s a clean sweep for Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) in the Buriram Test. His 1:28.855 is the only lap in that bracket from the event, although it’s still just shy of now-teammate Francesco Bagnaia’s lap record 1:28.700 in the GP here last year. Bagnaia was fifth at this test.DUCATI DECISIONS
Davide Tardozzi also confirmed that the only 2025 parts to be on the bike for Round 1 are electronics and suspension updates… meaning they’ve decided to stay with engine, chassis and aero from 2024, for now at least on most counts. Engine means they’re now locked in until the end of 2026.
The GP24 that has proved almost too good to improve was in second with Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP), who takes second at this test in another serious showing at a different track to his often more specialist venue of Sepang.
APRILIA IMPRESS
Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) was third fastest overall and impressing many up and down pitlane as he settles in at the Noale factory. His 1:29.060 is the quickest Aprilia have ever been at Buriram, and it’s the biggest improvement of all the factories who managed the same, namely Aprilia, KTM and Honda. Bezzecchi’s Sprint simulation was also pretty impressive.
Test rider Lorenzo Savadori also added more laps and data, and so did Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) despite being on the road to recovery after his crash in Sepang. He was upbeat about the extra track time and ended the test in a solid P13.
KTM CLOSE?
Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) likewise took his factory the fastest they’ve been, a 1:29.133 to end the test just off Bezzecchi in third. The #37 seems to have the early edge on new teammate Brad Binder for the moment, who was P12 but the South African says he also left time on the table during his time attacks.
After a challenging pre-season in some ways, Maverick Viñales seems to be settling in at Red Bull KTM Tech3 and moved into the top ten ith a key step. Teammate Enea Bastianini remains looking for a little more. As can often be the case given how they work, KTM seem to be one of the more unknown quantities heading into Round 1. Previously, that’s sometimes been a nasty surprise for their rivals.
HONDA HIT BACK
If Yamaha stole the headlines in Sepang, Honda did so in Buriram. Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) took P6 with the fastest lap any Honda has ever done at Buriram. Even more pleasing than the time attack was a Sprint simulation that rivalled the likes of Aprilia and KTM. Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) was P14 and Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) was P16, not putting in big time attacks on Thursday.
YAMAHA LOOKING FOR MORE
Sepang showed a big step forward for Yamaha, but just as Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) said, Buriram may prove a little tougher and it did. Still, the Frenchman was P8 and unlike Honda, Yamaha didn’t test at the venue beforehand. Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) was next up for the Iwata factory in P10, whereas his teammate Miguel Oliveira was P19, just trailing Alex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) in P17. We can likely expect more as the time attacks rolls out at the race weekend, however.
THE ROOKIES
Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) was the fastest rookie. A 1:29.6 defeats Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Racing MotoGP)’s 1:30, but the two have been duelling throughout pre-season. Home hero Somkiat Chantra continued to progress too, shaving more laptime off on his IDEMITSU Honda LCR machine.
That’s a wrap on the Buriram Test. Huge decisions from Ducati, big statements from their new arrival and some interesting showings from their rivals set the stage for a stunning season opener. See you there!
KTM
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Red Bull KTM Tech3 can now look to the first of 22 Grands Prix this season after completing two hot and hectic days of testing activity at the Buriram International Circuit in Thailand. As in Malaysia last week, Pedro Acosta was the pacesetter from the quartet on KTM RC16s and ended the second day 4th fastest. The rush to the opening round of the campaign continued in earnest and in the roasting dry heat at Buriram, the circuit where the Thai Grand Prix will take place the first weekend of March. The two Red Bull KTM teams had travelled from Sepang, Malaysia to Bangkok for the official season launch last weekend and then headed northeast from the capital for the last phases of testing and homologation decisions for this term and for 2026.
The factory had to gather and filter all the information from the hundreds of laps at Sepang. The outings at Buriram meant more evaluation and then confirmation of settings and hardware choices with the Thai GP very much on the horizon.
Acosta’s best lap was less than 0.3 of a second from P1 as Maverick Viñales, Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini were all within one second of the top of the time sheets. Viñales placed 9th on combined times for the two days and 0.7 away. Binder was a fraction adrift in P12 and 0.8. Bastianini ranked P15 in just his third outing with the KTM RC16. The top 15 MotoGP riders were separated by one second at Buriram.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Red Bull KTM Tech3 will now have a brief respite to apply their final touches to the race machinery and confirm engine and aerodynamic mods for 2025. MotoGP will assemble in Buriram during the final week of February to get an exciting and anticipated year speeding into action.
Pedro Acosta, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 4th: “We need to be happy. Again, we tried many things and we are getting the pace quite fast. It’s been a good pre-season for me and also for KTM because all four riders are thinking the same way, and the bike has already improved from last year. We are faster and it is easier for me to go faster. We need to be calm and then see how we can start the season here.”
Maverick Viñales, Red Bull KTM Tech3, 9th: “I am still trying to understand entry and braking – which is one of the strong parts of the bike – because I’m not yet at the maximum. The exit of the corner is so nice and I have grip. Anyway, it’s coming! I feel comfortable but to get to the next point I just need a little bit more understanding and I’m missing little bits on a flying lap. I need to put the tricks of the bike into my style and it takes time. I’m much closer than I was in Sepang, so that is good.”
Brad Binder, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 12th: “Two days here has gone quickly. We did some time attacks in the morning today and then a longer run in the afternoon and it was not too bad. Some small steps for sure, and better than when we were here last time. I feel that we are doing quite well and we need to put some more small pieces together for when we come back here in two weeks. It will be nice to have a full race weekend: I feel like we have done a lot of testing already!”
Enea Bastianini, Red Bull KTM Tech3, 15th: “My approach has to be different. The bike is different and I have to adapt to another style and also understand the difference between new and used tires. We didn’t get a Sprint simulation done today but we can just look ahead to the race now.”
Aki Ajo, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team Manager: “Very busy weeks in Malaysia and Thailand but finally we have to be happy about all the development that has happened over the winter; for that a big thanks to all the engineers and the crew at the factory who have been working hard in this short time. The team at the tracks have been very focused and we have followed the program quite well. Here at Buriram we turned to testing a bit more for the season ahead and it has been promising. Testing is always testing but the measuring point then comes at the races. As I say constantly: let’s try to be better each day and that’s the way ahead.”
Sebastian Risse, KTM Technical Director MotoGP: “We are now ready for the first race. What we did here was a continuation of what we were working on in Sepang, not only for the homologation but for other parts we’ve been working on in a short logistical time frame, far from our base. We had to work very hard to get everything here and ready but we did it. These days we managed to bring all of our test items together as well as the directions people were going with their choices into a common path. We were fast and the bike feels good for the guys who have experience with it, while we went through a learning curve with the others but they showed some good highlights and I think there is more to come. We need to analyze and think about our tire wear for the full race distance and this is something we’ll be doing over the coming week.”
Yamaha
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins returned to the Chang International Circuit today for the final day of 2025 preseason testing. They made the most of the improved track conditions during the two riding sessions (Session 1 from 10:00-13:00 GMT +7 and Session 2 from 13:20-18:00). With the 2025 MotoGP season due to start in two weeks' time, both riders worked diligently to find a good base set-up. They completed their testing schedules and took 8th and 17th place respectively in the combined Day-2 and the overall Thailand MotoGP Official Test results.Quartararo got another 27 laps in on the Day-2 morning session. He dropped under the 1'30s mark with a fastest time of 1'29.818s, which had him take 10th place, 0.963s from first. In the afternoon, he rode until the chequered flag came out, adding another 46 laps, and managed to shave off more than 0.3s, posting a 1'29.586s. The effort earned him 5th in the afternoon session rankings, 0.526s off the top time. It also left him 8th in the combined Day-2 and the overall Buriram Test classifications, with a 0.731s gap to first.
Rins had another productive day in Thailand. He got 38 laps in during the first session of Day 2. His 1'30.218s best time put him in 15th position in the Session-1 timesheets, 1.363s from the top. In the afternoon, he put in a further 19 laps and improved to a 1'30.062s. This had him finish 13th in the Session-2 rankings, 1.002s off the best time. However, in today's overall and in the combined Day 1-2 timesheets, the Spaniard ranks 17th, 1.207s from the fastest rider.

Team Director, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP
It was a different test than Sepang. In these two days, we mainly worked on fine-tuning the bikes for the GP, and we spent a lot of time on electronics set-ups. During Day 1, we had some difficulties, because the track was very green, and for all riders it was difficult to find a good feeling with the front. This got better today as the track conditions improved. We did a decent sprint race simulation, and at the end of the day we did a couple of time attacks which showed that again we were able to narrow the gap to the fastest time also in Buriram. Now, we have just enough time to analyse all the data, have some rest after spending 20 days in Asia, and get ready for the start of the season.
FABIO QUARTARARO
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider
I think that we have made a small step forward compared to last year. This test was a bit complicated for me. Like yesterday, the front tyres were not our thing during these two days, so we have to try to figure out how we can improve for the first race. But I think that, judging by our riding, we are doing quite well. Hopefully, we can make a step with the front feeling, which is usually our strong point for the race. I think that our level is different than last year, but we want to go into this season with no expectations and just do our best.
ÁLEX RINS
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Rider
I'm satisfied with the work we have done during the preseason. We've done many days of riding here in Buriram and in Sepang, and we finished this test with good conclusions. I'm feeling quite confident. I improved my way of riding and my bike's set-up, so now I'm able to be more consistent than last year. For sure, we need to keep working to find these 0.3-0.4s to improve our lap time but, overall, I'm quite happy. I feel ready to start the season.

MARCO BEZZECCHI AND LORENZO SAVADORI SHOW CONSISTENCY ON THE THAI CIRCUIT. JORGE MARTÍN CONTINUES HIS REHABILITATIONOnce again, at the Chang International Circuit — just as in Sepang — the Aprilia RS-GP25 has shown great potential. During the two days of testing, the last before the official start of the season in Buriram, Marco Bezzecchi and Lorenzo Savadori worked on the new RS-GP25, confirming the quality of the work done by the Noale-based manufacturer.
On the first day of testing at Buriram, Marco Bezzecchi continued his fine-tuning and development work, setting his best time at 1:29.794. On the final day of testing, the focus shifted to preparation for the first Grand Prix of the season, with two time-attacks, set-up tests and additional testing items. Marco Bezzecchi finished the two days of testing in third place in the combined standings, with a best time of 1:29.060.
During the two days of testing, Lorenzo Savadori carried out an intense development programme in preparation for the new season. The Italian rider completed 35 laps on the first day with a time of 1:31.730 and 28 laps on the second day, recording his best time of 1:31.207.
As for Jorge Martín, his rehabilitation program following the surgery on his right hand is progressing as planned. He will continue to work over the next week in order to be fully prepared after the injury during the Malaysia tests.
It's also worth highlighting the great work done by the Trackhouse team with Raúl Fernández, who, despite not being in the best of physical shape following his injury at Sepang, managed to finish thirteenth in the combined standings of the two days. Rookie Ai Ogura also showed his speed, finishing eleventh in the combined standings over the two days.
bezzecchi
In these two days of testing, I learned a lot about how to get the most out of the RS-GP25. We had two productive days in which I was able to set some good time-attacks and also a sprint simulation, so I'm very happy. We worked well and made a lot of progress. The bike is competitive, and the 2025 engine works very well everywhere. Finally, we'll be racing again soon!
savadori
I have continued to work on the electronics so that when Jorge returns, he will find the bike as competitive as possible. We're happy because we can see that the RS-GP25 is competitive, and the 2025 engine has definitely improved compared to the 2024 one. Of course, it's just a test, but both Marco and Ai Ogura from Trackhouse were fast.

Positives abound for Mir and Marini as MotoGP pre-season endsTemperatures rose and lap times dropped on the final day of testing in Thailand, Joan Mir put in a spectacular afternoon to seal sixth overall with Luca Marini in 14th as the pair collected the final pieces of the 2025 puzzle.
The MotoGP pre-season officially came to a close at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand as the second day of testing and an intense period ended with the setting of the sun. A midday pause would be the only break in action before 15:00 Local Time when both Honda HRC Castrol riders headed out on track for final long runs before the season begins. Matching the conditions of the race, Marini and Mir sought to better understand what could be awaiting them on March 02 when the lights go out at the Thai GP.
Joan Mir was able to improve his best time from Wednesday by 0.7s to end the test in sixth overall with a quickest lap of 1’29.399. This concludes a very positive pre-season for the double World Champion who has been able to continually put himself and the Honda RC213V inside the top ten in a number of conditions. Especially impressive was his final afternoon in Buriram, able to consistently lap in the 1’30s during a long run and put in a headline-grabbing second place finish in the final session. Mir leaves the two tests motivated and focused on the first race, determined to continue progressing and show Honda’s development.
"The goal was to have a balanced bike, we succeeded and this is the reason that pushed us to make some conservative technical decisions. I did a long run simulation and we are competitive even after 23 laps done at 3pm in the afternoon heat”. --MM93
The Honda HRC Castrol team will now head back to base for a few final adjustments before the season begins with the Thai GP, February 28 to March 02. What will follow is set to be the longest and most intense MotoGP World Championship campaign to date as Thailand leads to Argentina, America and Qatar before landing in Europe for the majority of the season.
Joan Mir
Sixth 1'29.399
“The pace that we showed today in our Sprint simulation and also in the hot lap is the best I have been able to do since I have been with Honda. Today we only did one proper time attack, and we couldn’t put everything together, while other riders did two time attacks – so this makes me happy because we still have some margin and we could have been even higher. I can’t really ask for much more. Having said that, there are still some things that we need to improve so I am looking forward to seeing what the engineers do over the opening races of the year. Now it’s time to push hard in training for a week before we return here to race.”
Joan Mir
Luca Marini
14th 1'29.783
“I am very satisfied with the job that my team, and all of Honda, have been able to do during this pre-season. It’s great to work with this crew, this team, everyone is pushing a lot and always. I have to say thanks to everyone. Now we are ready to start the year in just a couple of weeks back here in Thailand and I am sure we will see many things. During the tests, everything is a bit different and a race weekend always has a different story. We have been working a lot today to prepare for the race and anything that might happen. There’s still more to be done but we have made progress.”
Gresini
ALEX MARQUEZ #73
"It was a positive test; we were fast and consistent with our lap times. Overall, the entire pre-season has been like this, and without a doubt, we can call it the best pre-season since I started racing in MotoGP. I have to admit that the race simulation wasn’t up to par; we had some issues with the bike, but I decided not to stop so I could train even in difficult conditions. Now we’ll take a little rest, and then I believe we’ll be ready for the start of the season."
FERMIN ALDEGUER #54
"We’re almost ready for the start of the Championship. We’ve done a lot of laps both in Sepang and here. The feeling on this track in Buriram isn’t perfect yet, but we’re working well, and it was important to head home with a good feeling. I’m adapting well, and I think I’m ready to handle race distance. The more kilometers we cover, the better we understand the bike, the tires, the electronics, and the team."
Trackhouse
“Today’s test was nice. After six days in Sepang, we found a lot of places that we needed to improve. In these two days we have been working on an area we found in Malaysia and I can say, that we improved this point, which is the biggest thing for me. I think myself and my team are really happy about the work we did in the eight days of testing. We have covered a lot of points and we have been working well so far and that’s the most important thing, I think. Fortunately, the first race is here in Thailand, so we’ll see - testing and the official race weekend will be different I guess, so I will just keep concentrating and let the first weekend come to me. I’m happy about the test.”RAUL FERNANDEZ
“Overall, it was a positive test. This last part of the second day was quite difficult to manage because I was really beginning to feel the physical side. But I have a great team that helps me a lot and we managed the situation so, about that, I’m very happy. The best thing is that we could gather a lot of information for the race - we could not arrive at the first race with no information and like this, we have a base setup to start to work. With this it will be easier for everybody. Now it’s time to recover well, feel strong and get everything checked again in Spain with more time and then try to be at 100% for the first round.”
DAVIDE BRIVIO - TEAM PRINCIPAL
“Overall, we have had a positive two days here. Both riders have done a lot of laps, working through a long list of things to try. For Raul, it has been particularly tough physically after coming back so quickly with his injuries from the crash in Sepang so he has done a good job and will benefit from this test when we come back for the race. Ai has been very solid, found good pace and particularly has continued his learning process – taking a lot of information and improving on track. Really, I am impressed at the amount he has understood and achieved over the two weeks, in Malaysia and then here. I think he is ready for his first MotoGP race and I think the team is in a good place as well. Let’s see how we go when we come back for the first Grand Prix weekend.”
Castrol
Interesting and positive test for Zarco in BuriramCASTROL Honda LCR rider Johann Zarco has completed an intense second and final day of testing, finishing 16th in the combined standings.
On the final day of the Buriram Test, Zarco concentrated on fine-tuning his sensations on the bike to deliver precise feedback ahead of the homologation of the 2025 components. The primary areas of focus were aerodynamics and electronics, particularly during the morning session. In the afternoon, he completed a long run, enabling him to collect valuable data and refine his approach for the season’s opening race, set to take place here in just two weeks.
Johann Zarco 16th
(1’29.882)
"I improved my lap times slightly compared to yesterday, and today we tested many things to provide as much information as possible to the engineers. With better bike control and a deeper understanding, I feel I can perform better when it matters. There are still areas to improve, but I now see greater opportunities to do a strong job. This is a unique track, and we’ll do our best in the first race."
Pramac
It was another positive and constructive day for Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP team, as both Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira continued refining the setup of their Yamaha YZR-M1 machines in preparation for the upcoming race at the Chang International Circuit.
Miller demonstrated consistent progress aboard his new Yamaha, adapting well to the bike‘s characteristics. In the afternoon session, he successfully completed a Sprint simulation, maintaining an impressive rhythm that further solidified his confidence ahead of the first race weekend of the season, ending the day with the 10th overall position.
On the other side of the garage, Oliveira initially faced some challenges during the morning session but made notable improvements in the afternoon. His hard work paid off as he found a better setup, culminating in a late-session time attack that showcased his growing comfort on the bike. Miguel ended the day as 19th overall.
After an intensive seven-day testing program—including the shakedown test, three official days in Sepang, and the two sessions in Buriram—Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP is now fully prepared to take on an exhilarating 2024 MotoGP season.
GINO BORSOI
Team Director, Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP
“Since the first day here in Buriram, especially in Miller's side of the garage we have been making steady progress and that makes us very happy. Jack's feeling with the bike is very good, while we still need to find a good balance with Oliveira, although little by little we are also making progress with Miguel. With the Thai GP now just around the corner, at the end of the day we have started to focus more and more towards the race weekend, where I am convinced we will be able to make more progress. It's been a good winter anyway, the relationship with Yamaha has been great from day one, and that's definitely a strength of this new relationship we have with them.”
JACK MILLER
JACK MILLER
Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Rider
"The preseason was good. I feel very comfortable with the bike, the changes we have made have been a good improvement. And now we are ready to race, I am bored of testing and very excited to see what we can do when the lights go out. I feel that we have done the maximum in the off-season to be as ready as possible and now we just have to wait for the flag to drop. Coming back to a team I already knew well has made things easier and the transition working with Giacomo (Guidotti, Miller's crew chief; i.e.) has been very smooth. It's a great pleasure to work with him, after the first day in Barcelona we understood each other pretty well and the relationship is getting stronger and stronger.”
MIGUEL OLIVEIRA
Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Rider
"We struggled a little bit, but in this last day we finally managed to find the right way, to have a less nervous bike that allows me to better control the exit of the corners, reducing the movements. I am happy to have solved this problem, although we are aware that we will have to wait until the first races to solve some other ones. Until then, I will try to adapt as much as possible to the M1 and exploit its potential. We made a step forward on the long run with used tires and that comforts me a lot. Now I can't wait for the season to start.”
Ducati
The last stage of the approach to the first GP of the 2025 season (Thailand, February 28th - March 2nd) is over for the Ducati Lenovo Team on the track, in the last two days, at the Chang International Circuit at Buriram. A demanding schedule, to solve the last doubts about the technical choices for the next two years, with an overall positive balance and good performances by Marc Márquez and Francesco Bagnaia (respectively in P1 and P5 in the standings).Very fast since the Day 1, Marc further improves his lap time already in the morning session (36 laps today) and signs a good 1.28.855.
More complicated test but closed with a positive sign, with a best lap time of 1.29.378 and 42 laps today, instead for Pecco. After a first day in which he was forced into the pits due to some technical issues, he is ready to be among the protagonists.
Marc Márquez (#93 Ducati Lenovo Team ) – 1º
“The most important thing is to have completed the very long to do list we had at the beginning of these five days of testing. I'm happy, I have the confidence I wanted on the bike and we worked hard and well with the whole Team. We still need to sort out a couple of things, but I'm satisfied and can't wait to get back here for the race. The goal was to have a balanced bike, we succeeded and this is the reason that pushed us to make some conservative technical decisions. I did a long run simulation and we are competitive even after 23 laps done at 3pm in the afternoon heat”.
Francesco Bagnaia (#63 Ducati Lenovo Team) – 5º
“I'm happy, we were able to change direction after a complicated day. We have worked hard and only made progresses. The balance is positive, we are sure of our decisions on the technical side I mean and we are ready for the race. At the end I tried the time attack again, it wasn't perfect, but that's okay. I did several laps at 1.30 with used tires and, despite the drop, the times were competitive. I have perfected the set-up for the GP, I can't wait, we are confident and the Team has worked really well”.
Davide Barana (Ducati Corse Technical Director)
“We are satisfied with the performance both on the time attack and the race simulations seen at Sepang and here at Buriram. A very challenging 5 days of testing: we had a lot of material to test, but starting from an extremely competitive base, we preferred to adopt a prudent approach. I have to say that both riders gave very precise feedbacks, this helped us a lot in setting the bikes for the first race and decide which upgrades to postpone instead".
