Bagnaia pulled a shocking holeshot and the first laps were a dogfight between MM93, Bagnaia and Alex the Brother. Also, Quartararo put the Yamaha near the front much to the cheers from the crowd.

Bagnaia really looked respectable and up for the fight—for a few laps anyway. Marc hung around for a lap then did a string of seven 2:02 laps which put everybody else in "follower" mode.

Maverick Vinales, who had some success here at CotA last year, pulled into the KTM garage mid-race with some histrionics.

Bagnaia, in his post-race debrief, looked like a new man. Pulling a holeshot and running with the hot mess of Marquez brothers at the front did a great deal for his confidence. He said that MM93's near crash gave him a start and he was surprised to see Marc continue to flog the Ducati after that because it could have been a big one, and if he had crashed, Bagnaia could have run him over.
