The Scalera Prophecy: KTM Now Controlled by Indian Manufacturer Bajaj
And now, they will do as they are told.
More than a year ago, Italian journalist Paolo Scalera predicted that KTM would ultimately end up in the hands of Indian ownership, following financial mismanagement that pushed the brand to the brink of global crisis.

And now it has come to pass—call it the Scalera Prophecy. According to Reuters, Bajaj will acquire a controlling stake in Pierer Bajaj AG, thereby gaining indirect control of KTM’s parent company, Pierer Mobility AG.

It’s a humbling moment for the Austrian teams who rebuilt KTM from the wreckage of its first American export effort in the 1970s, when it partnered with Ohio-based Penton Motorcycles. In the decades since, KTM evolved into a global powerhouse in both production and racing—carried aloft, in part, by a uniquely Austrian brand of simmering arrogance that, for a time, was difficult to argue with given the results.

And now, they will do as they are told.
