Suzuki Team, 1974: $24 a Night at the Silver Sands Motel, Lake Winnipesaukee
Back When Factory Riders Shared a motel room and an Ashtray
They called it the Silver Sands Motel, but it was really just a low-slung collection of rooms with humming window units and parking area wide enough for the semi. The Suzuki team was there in the summer of ’74, $24 a night bought a room, a lake view, and the kind of camaraderie that only came from factory riders, mechanics, and hangers-on stacked together under buzzing fluorescent lights. Chain lube on the towels, wet swimsuits on the railing, and the smell of Castrol R bleeding into every sunset over Lake Winnipesaukee.
