This Week's Flat File Clear-Out: Okamoto's Eddie Lawson Kawasaki Print ARTIST PROOFS 1-14

The next drawer in the first of the three Soup flat files holds the artist proofs of the late Okamoto-san’s print of Eddie Lawson and the Kawasaki KZ1000 S-1 Superbike. Fourteen in total, numbered 1–14, they’ve lived in that drawer since the early 2000s. A few have minor dings from two decades of flat-file life, the kind you’d easily mat over.
Will the late Okamoto ever be hailed as an art genius on the level of Vincent van Gogh? Probably not. But we can tell you this: the Japanese artist was such a devoted Eddie Lawson fan that when he finally met Ed, we practically had to peel him off the guy and tell him to breathe. Stop crying, Okamoto-san!
Each AP is hand-signed by Okamoto, and each carries his little red envelope stamp — a quiet, personal symbol whose meaning he never shared.
