The situation in the Middle East has cast serious doubt over the Qatar Grand Prix scheduled for April 10–12 at Lusail. MotoGP is currently evaluating what to do if the conflict in the region makes it impossible to run the race.

Dorna CEO and MotoGP Sports Entertainment chief Carmelo Ezpeleta confirmed that the championship has been discussing the issue for several days. Speaking in Madrid during an Estrella Galicia event, Ezpeleta explained that the race could be difficult to hold on its planned date but that no decision has been finalized yet.

According to Ezpeleta, MotoGP remains in constant contact with the Qatari organizers. However, the current geopolitical situation means that staging the event on April 12 is far from certain. He emphasized that the series is not considering replacing the Lusail race with another circuit. Instead, if the event cannot take place as scheduled, the most likely solution would be to postpone it to a later date in the calendar.

Ezpeleta added that MotoGP is accustomed to reorganizing its schedule when necessary and that a “plan B” always exists if circumstances require adjustments to the calendar. The uncertainty around Qatar also reflects broader concerns affecting motorsport events in the region.

The World Endurance Championship has already postponed its race at Lusail, and other international events in the area are also under review.
