The World Superbike Championship began in 1988, making the 2027 season its 40th year of competition. American Fred Merkel won the inaugural championship on a Honda and repeated in 1989. The most recent American to win the WorldSBK title was Ben Spies, who took the 2009 championship on a Yamaha in his rookie season. That will make 18 years without an American champion when the 2027 season begins. WorldSBK has also been absent from American soil since July 2019, when the championship last visited Laguna Seca in California. The series first raced in the United States at Brainerd International Raceway in Minnesota in 1989 and subsequently visited Laguna Seca and Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. The 2027 calendar marks eight years since WorldSBK last raced in America, with no American round scheduled.
Additionally the 2027 WorldSBK calendar is hardly relentless. After four rounds in the opening two months, the series takes five weeks off between Assen and Aragón. The biggest hole comes in the middle of summer: after Donington on July 9–11, WorldSBK disappears for eight weeks before returning at Magny-Cours on September 3–5. Once racing resumes, the final four rounds are packed into eight weeks, ending with the series' first visit to Shanghai on October 29–31. February 19–21 — Phillip Island, Australia
March 19–21 — Portimão, Portugal
April 2–4 — Valencia, Spain
April 16–18 — Assen, Netherlands
May 21–23 — Aragón, Spain
June 4–6 — Most, Czechia
June 18–20 — Misano, Italy
July 9–11 — Donington Park, UK
September 3–5 — Magny-Cours, France
September 24–26 — Cremona, Italy
October 15–17 — Estoril, Portugal
October 29–31 — Shanghai, China
