One of the fastest guys in the 1970s, Ray Hempstead (center) holds court in the pits. This is where the term "bench racing" took life. Note the line of soda bottles under the bench, the toolbox that has held up many a motorcycle for a wheel change on the ground. Hempstead's friend and driver Clyde James with his back to the camera.
