BARBER MOTORSPORTS PARK: RACE 2
SUNDAY, MAY 19, 2024 | RACE 2

The Rahal Ducati Moto team departs the Barber Motorsports Park circuit with another set of podium finishes and good data for the rest of the season. PJ Jacobsen led the way for the Rahal Ducati Moto team, taking a second-place finish in both races of the weekend on his XPEL machine.

Kayla Yaakov showed incredible speed and competitively rode through the field to take home an eighth-place finish in Race 2. Corey Alexander's day ended early after high-siding, sending his bike airborne and finishing the weekend with a DNF. Despite the incident, the Alexander proved he is a staple within the Rahal Ducati Moto team, consistently running in the top five.

With the double-podium finishes for Jacobsen, he continues to lead the Supersport championship with Mathew Scholtz chasing him with an 11-point deficit.

Today's race concludes the team's activities at Barber Motorsports Park. The Rahal Ducati Moto Panigales will head back to Indianapolis to prepare for the next Supersport race. Rounds 5 and 6 of the MotoAmerica competition will take place at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, May 31 - June 2.

PJ JACOBSEN
No. 15 XPEL DUCATI PANIGALE V2

STARTED: 4th
FINISHED: 2nd
CHAMPIONSHIP: 1st // 90 Points
NOTES: Led laps after the red flag before ultimately settling into second

WHAT HE'S SAYING: “It was a difficult race. The clutch on my bike was a lot better today after some changes the team made. It was a bit of a face-off with Mathew [Scholtz], and I felt like I’d catch him, but then he’d pull away again. He was good on a certain portion of the track and I was good on another. I tried to manage the gap at that point, and was continually pushing because I knew someone was behind me. There was no taking it easy, and I was wide open the entire time. I’m pretty happy getting second. I’m thinking of Corey [Alexander], I hope he’s okay after that crash. Congrats to Blake [Davis] and Schotlz on a great race. A big thank you to XPEL, Roller Die + Forming, and all of our sponsors for supporting the team.”

COREY ALEXANDER
No. 23 ROLLER DIE DUCATI PANIGALE V2

STARTED: 12th
FINISHED: DNF
CHAMPIONSHIP: 6th // 39 Pts.
NOTES: Was riding as high as fourth when he suffered an incident sending his Panigale airborne and required medical attention // Diagnosed with a fracture that will require rehabilitation and further evaluation before being cleared to compete

WHAT HE'S SAYING: “Today was shaping up to be a much better day after the team made some drastic changes to the bike over night. I felt really strong in the early half of the race, but unfortunately had a big crash on the back straightaway while running up on the curbing. It was a bit of a freak thing I wouldn’t anticipate happening there. I’m not sure if some water was coming up from yesterdays heavy rain but nonetheless, I’ll be out for a bit with a fractured illium (hip wing). Sorry to the team and our sponsors for a tough weekend but we will be back and better than ever soon.”

KAYLA YAAKOV
No. 19 XPEL DUCATI PANIGALE V2

STARTED: 10th
FINISHED: 8th
CHAMPIONSHIP: 13th // 20 Pts.

WHAT SHE'S SAYING: "Another Top 10 finish today in Race 2. It wasn’t perfect, but we made some changes that helped and we’re going to keep improving. It was a better overall finish than we had at Road Atlanta, but I know there’s more to give. I’m really excited to keep learning and growing and finding the best setup for each race. We are getting closer each time."

BEN SPIES
TEAM PRINCIPAL

WHAT HE'S SAYING: “It was a decent day. We are really happy with the second place finish from PJ [Jacobsen]. This is a tough track for Ducatis, and I feel as though it was good damage control when looking long term for the championship. Unfortunately, Corey [Alexander] had a really big crash. We’re really sad for him because he was coming through the field very strong, but we’ll see where he is physically after this. He is getting a few X-rays now. Kayla [Yaakov] rode very well. She got trapped behind some riders but made a big improvement from yesterday. All in all, it was a good weekend."
